If you Google “Elmo” looking for the Sesame Street character these days, you’ll find the puppet’s name next to phrases like “underage sex” or “teen sex.” That’s because Kevin Clash, the gay man behind the children’s icon, had been falsely accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor.
A day after Clash was declared innocent, more details surface about the accuser, Sheldon Stephens, a 24-year-old “struggling” model with a long criminal record, The Smoking Gun reports.
While Stephens never came out publicly, TSG says they’ve confirmed the identity with two sources close to him, a family member and a friend.
The male model had several brushes with the law. According to court records obtained by TSG, Stephens attempted to pass a bad check, and was also collared for reckless driving.
His biggest offense came in September 2009 when he robbed a Los Angeles music producer at knifepoint $250,000 worth of jewelries and was later arrested at the Harrisburg airport.
Yesterday, Pennsylvania law firm no longer representing Stephens said he “wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship.”
Andreozzi & Associates also said the accuser will not comment on the matter.
