Popstar Britney Spears has shown a lot of love to the LGBT community throughout her music career and it appears that love will be given right back as she is honored at the 2018 GLAAD Media Awards.
According to Pink News, the “Toxic” singer will be receiving this year’s Vanguard award during the event on April 12 in Los Angeles. The award, given in the past to artists such as Jennifer Lopez and Demi Lovato, goes to individuals who have made a “significant difference” in helping the LGBT community.
Spears is no stranger to promoting love and acceptance through her role as a musician. The singer has been outspoken against anti-LGBT charity laws and has performed at numerous charity events for the LGBT community.
The singer is thrilled to be this year’s recipient and took to social media to express her gratitude.
“Honored to be receiving the Vanguard Award at the @GLAAD Media Awards this year. The LGBTQ community means the absolute world to me and inspires me every day. I am proud to be an ally and I will continue to support equality and acceptance for all,” the artist wrote on her Instagram.
When asked how Spears was chosen as this year’s recipient GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said the singer “embodied the spirit” of what this award is all about.
“She is a force in the music world who has used her global platform to share messages of love and acceptance, something that the world needs today more than ever,” Ellis posted on the GLAAD website.
This is just one of the many events Spears and her LGBT fans have to look forward to this year. Pink News goes on to report that the artist will be headlining this year’s Brighton Pride.
