Group for LGBT Youth
2312 Wilton Dr
SunServe is known for its social services groups so it’s no wonder they took home awards for Best Group for LGBT youth and Best Group for the Trans community.
For LGBT youth, winding up homeless or in foster care because of unsupportive parents is a very real possibility. But in Fort Lauderdale, there’s a home for that population: SunServe.
SunServe is a social services center for LGBT people of all ages with locations in Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors. One of their specialties is serving marginalized youth and the economically disadvantaged.
Director of Youth Services Tori Bertran said the basic life skills that SunServe teaches like cooking, opening bank accounts and doing laundry makes them different from most other LGBT youth organizations.
“Our social events always keep people engaged,” Betran said. Some of those events are game and movie nights, roller blading, and youth proms.
Along with basic life coaching, SunServe also hosts therapy, peer groups, and support groups including this year’s Best Group for Trans — Safe “T” Trans/Gender Non-Conforming Group that meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Bertran estimated SunServe sees at least 250 youth per year utilizing their services. With little exceptions, youth resources are free.
Sunserve has also won in SFGN's Broward-Groups
Butlers In the Manors
Few things are better than coming home to an immaculate house, especially when someone else cleans it. That’s part of what makes Butlers in the Manor so successful.
Launched in 2011, Butlers in the Manor provides professional residential cleanings. The company uses a detailed checklist to ensure homes are thoroughly cleaned.
Butlers in the Manor owner Andrew Durning recently started offering free cleanings to cancer patients and their caregivers.
“I lost my husband of 20 years to cancer,” Durning said. “I know firsthand what the struggle is to keep everything under control. The importance of a clean environment when battling cancer is what drew me to Cleaning For A Reason.”

Helping others is how Butlers in the Manor does business.
“We want to give back to our community,” Durning said. “We donate to the Stonewall Gala and a couple of churches in the area. You kind of feel good that you're doing something really good.”
The company serves Wilton Manors and its surrounding towns including Oakland Park, Victoria Park and Poinsettia Heights.
