Film Festival Continues Monthly Screenings

Israeli director Eytan Fox’s award-winning miniseries “Mary Lou” will be the next screened on Wednesday, Jan. 11 as part of the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival’s Afterglow Series. Compared to “Glee” or even “Mamma Mia,” Fox’s film is a musical dramedy about Meir, a young gay man, who searches for the mother who abandoned the family on his 10th birthday. His search takes him on an emotionally harrowing journey into Tel Aviv’s gay community, all set to the pop music of Svicka Pick.

The screening will be held at Miami Beach Cinemateque at 8 p.m. with a cocktail reception preceding at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6.25 - $16.25 at MGLFF.com.

The Culinary Arts on Exhibit

Thanks to Food Network, Whole Foods and a host of celebrity chefs, America’s palate has grown refined in recent years. The very best of Miami’s culinary scene will be on display on Saturday, Jan. 14 when the Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce hosts the third annual Taste of Miami at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

“In two short years, Taste of Miami has grown significantly in popularity as a social gathering and foodie event,” said Steve Adkins, president of the MDGLCC.  “So this year, we decided to give our guests what they want and have the entire evening devoted to the ‘Taste’ experience.”

Last year, more than two dozen chamber members participated, including City Hall, David’s Café, Seasons 52, Centerplate and the Hyatt Regency Miami. Tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door and include tastings, as well as signature cocktails by Bacardi and Grey Goose Vodka. Proceeds benefit the chamber foundation’s scholarship fund.
