If sunny weather, beautiful beaches, and hot guys aren’t enough for the perfect Florida vacation, consider visiting Fort Lauderdale during ArtsUnited's annual ArtExplosion Arts Festival.
ArtExplosion 10 International LGBT Arts Festival is February 6-20, 2010 and celebrates ten years as one of the premier LGBT art events in the country, with two weeks of art, film, music, dance, theatre, literature, comedy and cabaret by gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender artists and performers. This year’s highlights include comic legend Kate Clinton, music sensation Matt Albers, an exhibit on the Harlem Renaissance, and a special pre-festival performance by Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, just to name a few!
Presented by the arts group ArtsUnited, Art Explosion is one of the largest art festivals of its kind in the country, with over 30 different programs during the two-week period at venues across South Florida... The Festival kicks off February 6 at ArtServe Gallery with the opening reception of one of the largest juried art shows by LGBT artists. The theme of the opening night event is "Carnivale!" in celebration of this year's spotlight country, Brazil. Gay and lesbian artists and performers from Brazil will be highlighted that night and throughout the festival. The festival concludes February 20, with legendary comedian Kate Clinton at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. In between are two weeks of art exhibits, films, theater, and musical performances.
Now in its tenth year, ArtExplosion is receiving praise as one of the premier art events in the area. ArtExplosion is sponsored in part by Tylenol PM, RBC Wealth Management, AutoNation, Pride South Florida, and the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council. The Atlantic Hotel, overlooking Fort Lauderdale beach, is the official hotel of ArtExplosion 10 and reservations may be made by calling 866-318-1101 or at the hotel website.
Tickets for the events range from free to $10 for the opening event and up to $35 for the finale performance with Kate Clinton. Visit ArtExplosion Online for a complete list of events, venues, and ticket information.
