Ask any gay man which “Golden Girls” character he resembles most and you’ll almost always get “Blanche.”

Now, that’s obviously driven by vanity, a little wishful thinking or he’s just a slut.

There’s little argument that the 1980s sitcom shaped modern gay culture — reruns have been broadcast ad nauseam on multiple cable networks since the show ended in 1992 — and inspired plenty of drag parodies, but is South Florida ready for two more? One even involves puppets!

The Golden Gays, New York City-based thespians who have hitched their careers to the shoulder-padded septuagenarian roommates, present “Thank Yule for Being a Friend” through Dec. 19 at Island City Stage, 2304 N. Dixie Hwy. in Wilton Manors.

“Before traveling to spend the holidays with their families, Dorothy, Blanche and Rose participate in a golden gift exchange full of hilarious surprises. Just as they get to the airport a winter storm blows in, leaving them trapped! In an unexpected Charles Dickens twist of events, the three grannies must visit their pasts, present, and future to save Christmas … just in time for ‘Turkey Lurkey,’” promises the program notes.

Tickets are $35 – 45 at

If closely shaved men in wigs portraying the Golden Girls isn’t your thing, head to West Palm Beach and see the ladies portrayed in real fur — puppet fur, that is.

“That Golden Girls Show! — A Puppet Parody” is coming to the Rinker Playhouse at the Kravis Center through Dec. 12. This troupe — also based out of New York — will reenact your favorite classic episodes a la “Avenue Q” realness. (That means the actors-slash-puppeteers are right there, so just ignore them.) Get set for an evening of cheesecake, laughter, jazzercise, puppet sex talk and the elegant art of the quick-witted put down. It will be just like tuning in to the show on TVLand, Lifetime or the streaming service of your choice.

Tickets start at $49 at

But, it’s Art!

Even in the darkest days of winter (not that it’s all that dark or cold in South Florida), you can always count on local theater producer Ronnie Larsen for a few cheap thrills.

The dirty mind behind “Making Porn” and “The Penis Talk Show” is turning The Foundry, 2306 N. Dixie Hwy. in Wilton Manors, into an art studio complete with nude models. The first session was a sellout and he’s hosting aspiring artists and admirers of the male physique back on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. Following demonstrations by actual artists Greg Lindeblom and Tom Menninger, the audience will get their hand at the easel.

Tickets are $25 – 40 at Proceeds benefit POW! Plays of Wilton.
