NEW YORK (AP) — Police say a teenager is accused of punching a gay rights activist on a Manhattan street while yelling slurs.

The New York Post ( ) says Manuel Riquelme was arrested following an attack early Saturday near 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue in Manhattan.

It says the victim, Eugene Lovendusky, had been actively protesting a spate of other recent bias attacks.

The suspect was arrested on charges of assault as a hate crime, and harassment.

The name of his attorney was not immediately known.
