FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi is set to be honored by a suburban New York organization that advocates for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth.
Pelosi will be joined by Edie Windsor, the petitioner in the landmark United States Supreme Court case challenging the Defense of Marriage Act.
They will be feted by Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY) at the group’s 20th anniversary gala on Friday night. It’s CEO, David Kilmnick, says more than 400 civic, political, and business leaders are expected.
The event will be held at Carlyle on the Green at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale. The catering facility played host to a mass wedding of gay and lesbian couples soon after New York state legalized gay marriage in 2011.
