Christian Chavez, who is a regular on the Mexican telenovela Rebelde, was arrested in the early morning on Tuesday April 30 for an altercation with his boyfriend at a Beverly Hills home, according to TMZ.
A source told TMZ that both Chavez and his boyfriend Ben have been dating for over a year and the two are “currently not on speaking terms.” TMZ also reports both men had visible injuries at the time of arrest. They were booked on suspicion of felony domestic violence.
Chavez made his rise to fame starting in 2002 when he first appeared in another telenova, Clase 406. He, along with five others, formed the band RBD in 2004. RBD would go on to sell nearly 20 million records worldwide while earning two Latin Grammy Award nominations.
Chavez was outed in 2007 after photos of him and another man in Canada surfaced. He apologized to his fans for keeping his sexuality a secret.
“Although I'm scared and filled with uncertainty I know that I can rely on the support of my fans,” Chavez wrote. “Their love is bigger than all of this.”
Chavez took to Twitter to express his innocence and faith in the justice system in both English and Spanish after his arrest.
Even though arrests were made, it is up to the Los Angeles district attorney on whether or not to file charges against Chavez and his boyfriend.
