I haven’t yet been there for lunch, but I’ll definitely check out The Mason Jar again after the great experience my partner and I had for supper one evening. We were quickly greeted by our server, Scott, who seated us and took our drink orders. The Mason Jar offers beer and wine, but you should try their lightly sweetened iced-tea served in what else? A mason jar!

Looking around, we noticed it had a warm and cozy and homey atmosphere and I said it reminded me of my grandmother’s kitchen. There was soft music playing in the background quiet enough so that you can enjoy a nice conversation. Our first glance at the family-style comfort food on their menu made our mouths water. The Mason Jar has an overwhelming amount of four- and five-star reviews on Yelp! Over 200 people have voted on Urban Spoon with an 84 percent approval rating and in a Sun Sentinel review, The Mason Jar earned a perfect four out of four stars. We quickly found out why.

For me, it was a toss-up between their homemade chicken pot-pie ($17) and Janice’s meat loaf dinner ($17). I opted for the latter and chose the cheesy mashed potatoes and green bean casserole as my two sides. My partner Ken ordered the center-cut pork chop served with sun-dried cherry sauce ($23) with the green bean casserole and as his second side, he chose the Brussels sprouts with pistachios. He later said, “It was delicious!” He could have eaten an entire bowl of the buttery sprouts. My meatloaf and sides were each yummy as promised. As their menu says, Janice’s meat loaf is “just like mom used to make,” however my mother never made a meat loaf this good!

But remember, you only get the dessert menu when you’ve cleaned your plate. That wasn’t a problem for us! Overall, The Mason Jar was a great meal for a moderate price in a homey and comfortable atmosphere with delicious comfort food.

They do take reservations, which I highly suggest, especially for a busy night like Valentine’s Day, when you will want to take your sweetie out for a lovely dinner without any hassles. In addition to the spaces out front on Federal Hwy. there is also convenient parking off Middle River Drive in the rear of the building.
