The only thing owner Victor Zepka enjoys more than eating food is preparing it and serving it, with flare and flavor. You get both at Beefcakes.
Every dish is presented with style and substance. From the iceberg Wedge Lettuce to the homemade chili, the dishes are bountiful and plenty. French onion soup or fresh shrimp cocktails, deep-fried jumbo chicken wings or melting and juicy philly cheese steaks, it's all here.
I mean, how many places have a Sunday Brunch featuring a 'Hangover Breakfast' with 4 eggs over easy along with 4 strips of bacon, 4 steak medallions, hash browns and toast? This must have been one of Victor's weekend appetizers for guests at his home.
Because Beefsteak's is part of the Boardwalk Bar, you can imbibe freely with your meal, from classic mimosas to my own new favorite, the Lava Flow, a classic piña colada blended with light rums poured over a strawberry purée. I must admit I did also like their 'Brunette Slut Mojito,' or was it just the young muscular brunette dancer? I forget.
Even the names of the drinks are erotic and entertaining. You can try Ramon's African Cum shot, the x-boyfriend, or a ménage a trios- all drinks designed to leave you smiling. The establishment also features a 2 for 1 Happy Hour from 3 to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
Fortunately, the staff of SFGN went for a 1 p.m. lunch, so no one got to have 'Sex with the Bartender.' Don't get the wrong idea. That's just the name of another one of their many creative and unique drinks.
The main dishes are presented under the outdoor awnings and on their breezy patios, with flexible table settings capable of holding large parties. There is an outdoor bar, TV screens, and occasional karaoke nights. The bottom line is you can dress informally, eat plentifully, and the costs are modest.
While the menu is typically American, it includes Victor's homemade shepherd's pie and you never know when he might show up with a wiener schnitzel special. Sometimes, he even prepares his very special secret-sauce-melt-in-your-mouth meatballs, a recipe guarded like Coca Cola.
Whether you are seeking out a hearty and healthy salad or indulging in a nacho frenzy, your group will have a wide variety of choices, including the menu's star- Fort Lauderdale's 'Most Outrageous and Expensive Angus Cheeseburger,' which requires two hands to hold and a large, wide mouth to eat.
On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, Beefcakes opens at 11 a.m. for brunch. If you are looking for late night snacks, their kitchen is open until 2 a.m. on weekdays and 3 a.m. on weekends. It's not gourmet dining, but generous portions and a pleasant atmosphere with good food and a friendly staff combine to create an entertaining and enjoyable dining experience.
