WNBA Player Sharnee Zoll-Norman Comes Out
The Women’s National Basketball Association may be the league in the U.S. with the biggest number of out athletes.
The latest player to come out as lesbian is Chicago Sky guard Sharnee Zoll-Norman, who made the announcement during an interview with Windy City Times.
Zoll-Norman said she never officially came out — even though she is is married and has mentioned her wife in previous interviews — because she never thought there was any connection between her sexuality and her basketball career.
“I never felt whether I’m gay, straight, bi, [or] whatever that my sexuality had anything to do with me as a basketball player, and I don’t think it necessarily has anything to do with me as a person,” she said. “If I was straight, I wouldn’t have to come out and say that I was straight.”
The five-foot-seven inch athlete is playing alongside another out baller — this year’s WNBA second draft pick, Elena Delle Donne.
Last April, Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner came out in an interview with Maggie Sports Illustrated.
