Peruvian Man Allegedly Set Fire To Gay, HIV-Positive Son
Tired of being teased about his son’s sexuality, a Peruvian man allegedly doused his gay son with gasoline and set him on fire after finding out he was not only gay but also HIV-positive.
Hitler Baneo Núñez, 49, is accused of setting his 22-year-old son on fire and trying to burn him alive, Peruvian newspaper La Región reports.
Fortunately for the son (identified in the story by the initials R.B.P) neighbors came to his aid and were able to save him. The young man suffered burns to his face, arms and parts of his legs.
Besides being HIV-positive, he had tuberculosis.
“My dad wanted to kill me because of those illnesses, but my aunt took me out of my father’s house and took me to Iquitos to put me in the institution ‘Algo bello para Dios’ since March 1,” the victim is quoted as saying in Huffington Post translation.
“Unfortunately, my father doesn’t accept me as I am.”
In March, British 20-year-old Jordan Sheard was convicted of manslaughter after setting a local gay teen on fire, resulting in his death. The BBC reports that Sheard has been sentenced to three and a half years in jail for the crime.
