Paraguay Presidential Candidate: ‘I’ll Shoot My Testicles Off’ If His Son Were Gay
The frontrunner in the upcoming elections for the new president of Paraguay is causing a stir by making outrageous comments about gay marriage and homosexuals, according to the Huffington Post.
In a radio interview, Horacio Cartes is said to have referred to gay people as monkeys and said he would inflict bodily harm if his son were to ever marry another man, The New York Times reported.
“I would shoot myself in the testicles, because I do not agree,” Cartes said in the interview. Cartes also compared the support of same-sex marriage as believing in “the end of the world,” according to the Times.
Liberal Party member Efraín Alegre slammed Cartes’ comments even though he himself has not come out in support of marriage equality. The Times quoted Alegre as saying the issue is “something that needs to be discussed.”
The Paraguayan presidential elections are set to take place on April 21, 2013.
