Man Uses Two Gay Dating Apps to Rape, Rob Community in Two Cities
A man from Kent, Washington has been charged with seven felony counts stemming from a week-long crime spree in Seattle where police say he contacted men on the gay social app Growlr before raping them at gunpoint and robbing them, according to Advocate.
Seattle police described the attacks to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer saying the accused, 32-year-old convicted felon Leverne Lee Maxwell, would meet up with the men at their homes after talking on the social app. After asking for water, Maxwell would brandish the gun threatening to kill the victims if they did not cooperate.
Maxwell insists he is innocent, saying the sex was consensual. Investigators said they found fingerprints on an unused condom linking Maxwell to the alleged crimes. He was also identified by “several victims.”
He remains in jail on $750,000 bail awaiting his May 6 court appearance.
The man is also accused of the same crimes in Kent using the gay mobile app Scruff.
