GetEqual Gets Stupid… Again…
It’s a sad day when America’s most prominent gay blogger, perhaps, is suckered in by propaganda against the Democrats who successfully passed the Mathew Shepard Act and secured billions of dollars worth of additional funds for HIV/Ryan White Care that certain Republican-controlled states have been frittering away.
But that is exactly what happened when Pam Spaulding, who operates PamsHouseBlend.com posted this video on her blog and facebook page, created by the brainiacs at GetEqual:
The video features not-so-carefully collected snippets of people like Hillary Rosen from the HRC warning people on CNN that gay rights must be sought incrementally and that progress is being made. The idea behind the video is that Rosen is lying, or at least leading us down a path of giving up on our rights. The video focuses in on Rosen saying that “we have [accomplished outlawing] hate crimes and next month the house is going to pass ENDA.”
Since ENDA has not passed in the Senate, and therefore has not fully been realized, the video preys upon the ignorance of gay voters by making it seem as though Rosen was lying to us. But Barney Frank held up his end of that deal… and so did 200 other Democrats in the House of Representatives. The bill was stalled in committee by Republicans and believe it or not… it’s an election season so some people in Congress are a little more concerned with keeping their seats than getting that one bill passed.
GetEqual has a real problem with the Democrats who have introduced (and often passed in the House) these bills for gay rights but they never go after the Republicans who kill these bills in the Senate. In fact, they don’t even go after the few Democrats who helped to kill these bills. They would rather blame Obama… over and over and over again.
The video they released features Obama, Barney Frank, and the HRC and outwardly blames them for the failure of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell to be repealed… But Barney Frank is a member of the House – which did in fact repeal DADT. DADT was blocked from coming to a vote in the Senate. Two Democrats from Arkansas helped Republicans to block it… But Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor are missing from GetEqual’s video.
One must really contemplate who GetEqual is really working for.
