Gay Soldiers Using Craigslist to Hook-Up in War Zones
Gay service members may be able to serve openly, but sex outside of marriage is forbidden in the military and those looking for hookups are resorting to online tools to satisfy their needs: Craigslist.
According to Marine Corps Times, gay soldiers are posting ads on Craigslist to meet up and have sex on military bases located in war-torn Afghanistan.
The problem is that agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service are now tracking and arresting those looking to hookup. A U.S. Marine lance corporal was tricked in an online sting after arranging a meet-up with an undercover officer — he was arrested and forced to give up $1,600 in pay and got 45 days of extra duties and 45 days of restrictions.
The Daily Mail posted one of the alleged ads, which showed a soldier, said to be based at Kandahar Air Field, in uniform with his genitals hanging out.
“Looking for a workout buddy or someone to hang out with, see where it goes. Let’s be honest, we all have our times and if it comes down to it, I want someone for clean, sane, safe and drama free fun,” the ad read, adding he was looking for “m4m.”
Retired Col. Dr. Elspeth Cameron Ritchie, a former Army psychiatrist, said soldiers having sex while away on tour of duty is nothing new.
“These young men have high testosterone and, with the inability to quietly have a relationship, it is not surprising that they are willing to put themselves into that situation,” she told Marine Corp Times.
