‘Friday Night Lights’ Author Buzz Bissinger Says He Could Have Been Gay
In an essay published in next month’s GQ Magazine, “Friday Night Lights” author Buzz Bissinger writes an admission to being a shopaholic and a possible gay leather master.
The 6,000-word essay outlines how Bissinger went from being a sports journalist to sitting front row at a Gucci fashion show this year in Milan. Maybe it was because of the nearly $1 million the famed author admits to spending on high fashion. Bissinger’s trip to Milan was all paid for by Gucci – their thanks for being a loyal customer.
“I own eighty-one leather jackets, seventy-five pairs of boots, forty-one pairs of leather pants, thirty-two pairs of haute couture jeans, ten evening jackets, and 115 pairs of leather gloves,” Bissinger wrote. “Gucci by far makes up the highest percentage of my collection.”
Because of his addiction, Bissinger says he questioned his sexuality. Straight, white men don’t shop the way he does, apparently.
“Was I homosexual because so much of what I wore is associated with gays? I did experiment,” Bissinger admits. “And while I don’t think it is my sexual being, I can tell you that gay men as a group are nicer, smarter, have a shit load more fun than straight whites.”
Bissinger also says he thought that maybe he could have been a gay leather master or a transvestite. Again, he admits to experimenting.
“Was I veering toward becoming a dominant leather master in the S&M scene, the leather fetish an obvious influence in most of the clothing I purchased and in much of high fashion itself,” Bissinger asked.
“Was I a closeted or maybe not so closeted transvestite? Tom Ford makeup is divine; the right foundation and cheek blush and eyeliner and lipstick can do wonders for the pallid complexion.”
According to Yahoo, Bissinger said he has entered rehab and hopes his words help someone else in a similar situation.
