Clubhouse II: Fort Lauderdale’s oldest gay establishment
I’ve got to wonder why I can’t recall any local publications ever writing a story showcasing Clubhouse II. Is the subject too taboo, too dirty? I don’t think so, especially not in this day and age, of full disclosure of every topic imaginable on the Internet.
Let’s look at the facts, Clubhouse II is a gay operated business, over 35-years-old, at the same address, and run by a single owner. I had to visit to see what it was like, as there are no other gay businesses in town that can make these claims.
I’m not going to beat around the bush. Clubhouse II is a gay bathhouse. For those that don’t know – and there really are people that don’t – you go there to get naked, hit the steam rooms, hot tub, and of course…hook up with other men. At peak times, the place is packed with men walking around in just a towel, but on leather night, there are a lot of guys in harnesses…which gets my personal rating of fierce.
You can rent a locker, a regular room, or VIP room. The rooms generally have a single bed, while VIP rooms have a larger bed, with lots of porn on the TV! My room was known as the “Ramrod room”, having hooks on the ceiling for a sling, I assume. You get a room key, so you can keep your things locked in the room while you explore the hallways and dark corners, or go into the hot tub or saunas. My room also had a “locker” inside to keep things stowed in case I had a visitor.
The staff is very friendly, and facilities are very clean. I enjoyed the hot tub for a few cycles, and wondered around the maze of hallways for a while. I recommend bringing flip-flops. You’ll just feel more comfortable walking around in them rather than bare foot.
The crowd while I was there seemed to be in the “middle aged” category, which everyone told me to expect. Those that do frequent these establishments say Clubhouse II is where the older crowd meets, which is always a big “thumbs up” for me.
They offer a complimentary bar and snacks on Friday and Saturday nights and on Bear Night Thursdays. Leather Night is Tuesdays, and pizza is offered with the price of admission. I was there on Saturday afternoon, so I only saw the bartender setting up as I was getting ready to leave. He was making coffee, and it sure smelled good.
If you happen to be curious about Clubhouse II, I recommend you give it a shot during a slow time, and ease into it. The employees seem to be really honest about this. If you tell them you’ve never been to a bathhouse before, they will tell you everything you need to know to make your visit comfortable. I will definitely visit again when it’s busier!
Clubhouse II is located at 2650 E Oakland Park Blvd, just east of Federal Highway, near the 7-Eleven. They’re open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and ID is required.
