Rights Groups Ask Pope Francis to Help Make Gay Sex Legal

At a meeting in the Vatican last Friday, rights groups asked for the Pope’s help in decriminalizing homosexuality.

About 50 people met with Pope Francis’ secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, to discuss the human-rights violations they found in the Caribbean, according to CNN. Parolin said he would pass the information along to the Pope.

The representatives called on the Church to "work for the decriminalization of homosexuality and for the abolition of all forms of punishment for consented intimate sexual acts between adults,” and for all states “to declare illegal the application of the so-called conversion 'cure' therapies,” CNN reported.

In the past, the Catholic Church has upheld that people would not be discriminated against based on their sexuality.
