The United Kingdom city of Manchester is celebrating pride this weekend with their own festival, and to kick it up a notch the city installed special LGBT symbols on several crossing signals in the area.
Instead of green stick figures that normally appear on 34 crossing signals in the city’s downtown area, the new temporary signals will show four different designs: two female symbols, two male symbols, a male and female symbol and a transgender symbol.
“We are proud, in conjunction with our traffic signals contractor Siemens, to transform some of the traffic lights around the Gay Village for Pride,” said Bob Morris, COO of Transport for Greater Manchester. “Hopefully they’ll give visitors and residents a special welcome as they enjoy the festivities over the Big Weekend.”
The Transport for Greater Manchester’s Twitter profile picture also currently displays the LGBT Pride flag.
