(EDGE) A U.K. man convicted in December of murdering his Grindr date - a police officer - was found dead in jail Sunday, the British newspaper the Mirror reports.

Stefano Brizzi, 50, who was found guilty of murdering Gordon Semple and dissolving his body in acid, was sentenced to life in prison and was told he would serve a minimum of 24 years.

A number of news outlets are now reporting Brizzi was found dead in Belmarsh prison Sunday of an apparent suicide.

Brizzi, a former Morgan Stanley IT Developer, met Semple on the gay dating app Grindr and arranged a meeting at his apartment near London's Tate Modern gallery in April 2015, the Associated Press reported.

After being arrested, Brizzi confessed to killing Semple and said he tried to dissolve his body because "Satan told me to."
