Kevin Fret, a rapper and LGBT advocate, was shot dead on January 10 in Puerto Rico.
The 25-year-old was shot twice times in San Juan, according to the New York Times. Police are now looking for another man who was with Fret, but fled the scene quickly after he was shot. They are not ruling out a hate crime.
Fret was known as Latin trap’s first openly gay artist. His manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, confirmed his death in a statement before the police released the victim’s name.
“His passion was music, and [he] still had a lot to do," Rodriguez said. "This violence must stop. There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go. We must all unite in these difficult times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico.”
