James Faulkner, an Australian cricket star, had to clarify his sexuality on Instagram after fans rushed to support him in what they thought was a coming-out post.

Faulkner posted a photo of him with his mother and his best friend, Rob Jubb, calling him his “boyfriend,” and saying they had been together for five years, according to Out Sports. But he later came out as “not gay” after fans misunderstood the post.

“There seems to be a misunderstanding about my post from last night, I am not gay, however it has been fantastic to see the support from and for the LBGT community. Let’s never forget love is love, however @robjubbsta is just a great friend. Last night marked five years of being house mates! Good on everyone for being so supportive,” Faulkner wrote.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Faulkner has been calling Jubb his “boyfriend” for years.
