The happiest place on earth will become one of the gayest places on earth when One Magical Weekend takes over Disney World in Orlando. The event attracts more than 160,000 people from around the world to the central Florida area. The festivities generate more than $600 million in economic benefits.
One Magical Weekend is one of the premier parties in the LGBT circuit and of the annual Gay Days week in Orlando. It features DJ’s from all over the country including the acclaimed Twisted Dee and Brett Henrichsen.
The highlight of the weekend is RipTide, at Disney’s Lagoon Waterpark. It’s an aquatic spectacle featuring spirits, splash and celebration! Come witness 6,000 people screaming down the water ride and surfing the tidal wave at the 52-acre world-class waterpark. The party goes on from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Former Fort Lauderdale resident Mark Rowe now lives in Los Angeles. He had so much fun at past weekends in Orlando, that he’s flying across the country to attend this year.
"The traditional red shirt let's you see who is celebrating a sort of Pride in the Magic Kingdom, but the spirit is contagious, and I love the reaction by straight guests...many who I chatted with who said they had a blast and said everyone was incredibly fun. There's a lot more interaction with everyone in the park that day. The celebration brings people together no matter what their orientation," said Rowe.
Ticket prices for One Magical Weekend start at $30 (although you’ll probably want to pay more than that.)
For so much fun that’s just a few hours away, how can you go wrong? Put on a red t-shirt and head 250 miles north!
And remember, what happens in Orlando, stays in Orlando!
