According to a New York Times report, the Out NYC Urban Resort, a gay hospitality mecca proposed by developer Ian Simpson Reisner is scheduled for completion early next year. Reisner has teamed up with Axel Hotels for the venture, which currently operates gay resorts in Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Berlin.
The 127-room resort, which will be located at the western end of 42nd Street, will be designed by architect Paul Dominguez. The $30 million, 90,000-square-foot complex will contain a selection of restaurants and bars, a spa, reception hall, retail stores and dance club. Reisner calls the current project a “supersize” version of his original plan.
The main attraction however will be the 14,000-square-foot XL Dance Bar, to be located in what was originally a 100-car parking garage. The entertainment venue will be operated by John Blair and Beto Sutter, two industry pros who bring 25 years of promoting experience to the project as well as Tony Fornabaio and Brandon Voss, the team which organizes Club 57, a popular Saturday night event.
Out NYC’s amenities will include a Nickel spa, courtyard lap pool enclosed in a glass atrium, a gym and wellness center, a cafe called Kitchen and a reception hall which will accommodate same-sex weddings and commitment ceremonies as well as corporate events.
Reisner, who runs Parkview Developers with his life partner Mati Weiderpass were creators of the national chain store Watch World, which was sold to Sunglass Hut. Other projects include a condominium building called the 505, and a proposed hotel-and-condo tower near the Empire State Building.
