(EDGE) Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intelligent life here.
Set phasers to stun. Peter LaBarbera, head of the barely consequential hate group Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, wants to get to the bottom of why there are no ex-homosexual characters in TV or film. His rant was prompted by the gay characters featured on the new sci-fi series "Star Trek: Discovery.
Speaking last week on the Crosstalk radio program on VCY America, LaBarbera cried: "We have yet to see an ex-gay, a former homosexual prominently portrayed in Hollywood."
LaBarbera, whose Americans for Truth About Homosexuality makes more noise than money ($110K in revenue based on a tax return published by Guidestar), urged listeners to confront the issue head-on. "Remember, the other side never stops fighting. There is a battle between good and evil in this country," he said.
But what is a gay-hating but sci-fi-loving Christian to do in a world that won't include a mythical ex-gay character on a popular futuristic space fantasy franchise program?
"I guess all we can do is not watch 'Star Trek,'" he said, adding that "this sort of propaganda" and "political correctness" is "why Trump won in the first place."
