(EDGE) In a tweet today informing his fans of a broken thumb, Olympic athlete Gus Kenworthy said that the injury would not keep him from competing.

What it will keep him from doing is shaking hands with Vice President Mike Pence, it was reported today in the British website GayTimes.

It is the latest salvo in the dispute between out Olympic athletes Kensworthy and Adam Rippon and the Trump administrationthat developed in the past few weeks.

Earlier this week Kensworthy posed with Rippon in a kiss with the following statement: "The Opening Ceremony is a wrap and the 2018 Winter Olympic Gaymes are officially underway!"

He added: "I feel incredibly honored to be here in Korea competing for the US and I'm so proud to be representing the LGBTQ community alongside this amazing guy."

In this tweet (seen below) Kenworthy said: "Broke my thumb yesterday in practice. It won't stop me from competing (obvi) but it does prevent me from shaking Pence's hand so... Silver linings! Will be giving my teammates (and literally everyone else) an enthusiastic "thumbs up!" of encouragement the rest of the trip."

"Eat your heart out, Pence," he added.

Earlier, Kenworthy said that he wouldn't be headed to the White House for a post-Olympics event.

"I have no interest in faking support," Gus told TIME Magazine this past December when asked if he'd attend. "I don't want to go shake his hand."

"The openly gay snow sports star feels an obligation to push back against the current administration, especially when Trump is attempting to bar transgender people from serving in the military," the GayTimes report continued.
