An Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight fighter was suspended by UFC President Danna White after he went on an unprompted, insult-laced tirade against transgender MMA fighter Fallon Fox.

Matt Mitrione, a former NFL player, was appearing in his “Mitrione Minute” segment of The MMA Hour when he compared Fox to the serial killer in Silence of the Lambs, Jame Gumb, according to SB Nation.

“Maybe instead of being 'the Queen of Swords,' Fallon Fox should consider being "The King of the Buffalos," Mitrione said.

SB Nation then reports that Mitrione would go on to refer to Fox as a he, calling her  “a lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak.”

Fox has been under the microscope in recent months after the revelation that she underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2006. She has won her only two fights, and while one opponent is appealing their loss, Fox has another fight later this month.

For his comments, Mitrione was suspended indefinitely by the UFC for violating the fighting promotion’s code of conduct.

“ finds Mr. Mitrione’s comments offensive and wholly unacceptable and - as a direct result of this significant breach of the UFC’s code of conduct – Mr. Mitrione’s UFC contract has been suspended and the incident is being investigated,” a UFC statement read.

“The UFC is a friend and ally of the LGBT community, and expects and requires all 450 of its athletes to treat others with dignity and respect.”
