Boardwalk Celebrates 25 Years
Boardwalk, a South Florida institution featuring some of the region’s hottest male dancers, is turning 25 this month and owner Victor Zepka is ready to celebrate.
“Well, first of all, I was a mere child when it started,” Zepka laughs.
Actually, he always wanted to have his own business, and after finishing his business degree realized he had two options: put on a suit and enter the corporate world or stay in South Florida and start his own business. Fortunately for the hundreds of thousands of customers over the year who have enjoyed the dancers at Boardwalk, he stayed.
Zepka says he never could have imagined the bar would be so successful, but the highlight has been the visits by a number of stars, including Madonna, Elton John and Gianni Versace. “It was such a compliment to me that they would come to my little bar,” he recalls.
To celebrate, Boardwalk is offering a month-long party, and giving ever customer a spin at the lucky wheel to win more than $10,000 in prizes in March. “Everybody is going to be winner,” Zepka promises, with a grand prize private yacht cruise for the winner and 12 guests worth $15,000.
Zepka will wrap up the anniversary month with a huge party on Wednesday, March 31 beginning at 9 p.m.
As for Boardwalk’s next 25 years, Zepka already has plans.
“I get customers from all over—San Diego, Los Angeles, Washington (D.C.), New York City—and everybody wants a Boardwalk in their town, so we’re looking at the possibilities of opening other locations,” he says.
If the first 25 years are any indication, Zepka’s next will also be successful.
We’ve Got Green Beer!
There’s never been a better reason to hit the bars and party than that annual salute to all things Irish—St. Patrick’s Day. After downing your corned beef and cabbage, head to one of these local watering holes for a big pint of green beer, or better yet, a shot of Irish whiskey. Several popular bars are pulling out all the stops including SideLines Sports Bar, 2031-A Wilton Drive; Bill’s Filling Station, 2209 Wilton Drive; and Matty’s On the Drive, 2426 Wilton Drive. There’s always a pot ‘o gold at the end of the rainbow!
Things are Heating Up on the Beach
Excitement is building for Miami Beach’s second annual Gay Pride festival next month and Lincoln Road nightclub Score is holding a fundraiser to benefit the celebration on Tuesday, March 16. Dance the night away to a Latin beat at the club’s weekly Planeta Macho party. Strut your stuff in the salsa dance contest hosted by Teresita “La Caliente” or just enjoy Ricardito La La La and his hot dancers on the second level.
Sky Bar at Shore Club
Thursday nights just got gayer at the Sky Bar at Shore Club, 1901 Collins Ave. in Miami Beach. The posh lounge launched Oasis, a mixed party, featuring DJs Oren Nizri and Pocket Change from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Partygoers can dance by the pool or gyrate to the beat on the lounge beds. The resort’s AGO restaurant will also be whipping up gourmet pizzas all night long and featured martinis are $8 until midnight.

Check your pants at the door, because Twist, a South Beach institution, kicks off Spring Break on Friday, March 19 with an outrageous underwear party. DJ Just Oliver will be in the booth and you won’t want to miss the underwear fashion show by Creative Male at 1 a.m. One lucky winner will also take home a $100 prize at the wet underwear contest. Twist is located at 1057 Washington Ave.
