Nightlife: Another Month, Another Holiday

We love the fall. There’s a federal holiday every month, ensuring a big party weekend in South Florida. Last month, we had Labor Day. This month is the salute to Christopher Columbus, which happens to fall on Monday, Oct. 10. In honor of the contributions of the discovery of the New World, the area’s clubs and bars have a special three-day weekend planned. Here’s a lot at some of the highlights:

Wednesday, Oct. 5

Feeling lucky? Play that hand of Texas hold ‘em tonight at Scandals Saloon, 3073 NE 6th Ave. in Wilton Manors. The bar’s poker tournament kicks off at 7 p.m. on the dance floor bar with Peter. It’s gonna be a great night and we’re not bluffing!

Thursday, Oct. 6

In Miami, you’ll find plenty of hot men at the new Johnny’s, 62 NE 14th St. Thursdays are Latin Nights with shows by Teresita La Caliente and the bar is serving up free Cuba Libre from 10 p.m. to 12 p.m.

In Fort Lauderdale, there’s no denying that the Alibi in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors must be a stop on your evening’s itinerary. Enjoy their famous iced teas—traditional Long Island or electric Long Beach—in the signature mason jars. The drinks are just one reason why The Alibi is such an institution in the Fort Lauderdale area.

Friday, Oct. 7

On holiday weekends, Boardwalk owner Victor Zepka always has a surprise. Tonight and Saturday, the first 50 people each night after 9 p.m. at the Andrews Ave. club will receive a free Jet Set men calendar. Take home more than memories from your visit to the Boardwalk.

Miami nightclub Sugar kicks off the holiday weekend with 2-4-1 drinks until midnight. Resident DJ Jarell will be in the booth and don’t miss shows by T.P. Lords and Sasha Lords. Host Alex Infiniti has giveaways and specials all night long, also. You’ll find the party at 2301 SW 32nd Ave. in Miami.

Saturday, Oct. 8

Discover the world of Manor with international sensation DJ Kidd Madonny. Arrive early for live band entertainment at 9 p.m. and don’t miss the sounds of salsa and spicy drag performances in the Noche Latina Room. Best of all, there’s no cover. The Manor is at 2345 Wilton Dr. in Wilton Manors.

Wet Bar in Miami hosts O Saturdays with DJ Lazaro Leon playing house, tribal and anthems all night long. In addition to sexy dancers, stop by for the 2-4-1 drinks at 1728 SW 8th St. Doors open at 11 p.m. and the action continues to 5 a.m.

Sunday, Oct.  9

Ramrod, South Florida’s leather/Levi/uniform bar hosts its annual Mr. Ramrod contest. It’s not too late to compete for the title and, of course, the winner will represent South Florida at the annual International Mr. Leather Contest next spring in Chicago. The show begins at 10 p.m. Ramrod is located at 1508 NE 4th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.

Celebrate Columbus Day poolside in South Beach at the Lords South Beach, 1120 Collins Ave., beginning at 4 p.m. DJ Juan E will be spinning and there will be punch bowl specials while you work on your tan. Afterwards, head over to Edison Farrow’s new event, Chalet Sundays at Treehouse, 323 23rd St. There’s no cover to this cool party and free vodka drinks from 10 p.m. to midnight.

Monday, Oct. 10

Wind down your holiday weekend with brunch at Rosie’s Bar and Grill, 2449 Wilton Dr. in Wilton Manors. Hang out on the patio and nurse that hangover with a tangy Bloody Mary and one of Rosie’s legendary burgers. And don’t forget to raise a glass to our hero of the day, Christopher Columbus!
