Ariel Rimm, Nicole Saphire and three more pro drag queens and kings will do their thing first — then the students will take the stage during intermission.

It’s the second annual drag show at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and it’s at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 in the Live Oak Pavilion.

“It’s a tradition we’re trying to get started,” said LGBT Resource Center Specialist Emily Calfo.

Last year, the Resource Center booked the Majestic Palm room and expected 100 students to turn out for the event. When 250 students filled the room and wrapped around the walls outside waiting to get in, they knew they needed a bigger venue.

“I am really looking forward to attending!” FAU student Octaviano Rios wrote on the facebook page for the event.

This year, Calfo booked a room to fit 400 students if necessary, but she’s expecting 250 to turn out. FAU’s LGBTQA/Straight Alliance, Lambda United, is also helping Calfo and the Resource Center host the event.

“Hopefully we’ll have a drag show every year,” Calfo said.
