Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival presents An Evening with Xaviera Hollander, the most famous Madame of “the world’s oldest profession,” author, Penthouse columnist, performer, raconteur, and theatrical entrepreneur. Hollander is a lecturer and has been a guest to talk show hosts Larry King, Sally Jesse Raphael, Selina Scott, and the popular BBC show: Hard Talk. She has been the subject of two films and portrayed herself in another. Subsequent to the best selling novel The Happy Hooker (over 16 million copies sold), Hollander has written seventeen books, both fiction and non-fiction, which have been translated into 14 different languages.
What sort of woman became the most influential "Madam" in New York? Guests will learn of her childhood in a WWII Japanese concentration camp with her parents and their return to Holland, her bisexually curious teen years, her beginnings with prostitution and her call-girl agency, and how she went on to legendary status.
The event will be held Monday, March 1 at Cinema Paradiso, beginning at 6:30pm with the feature film The Happy Hooker, starring – Lynn Redgraves stars as the Dutch ingénue Xaviera Hollander in New York. At 8:00PM FLIFF presents a special screening of Xaviera Hollander, the Happy Hooker: Portrait of a Sexual Revolutionary, the fascinating documentary that reveals the woman behind the legend who became the most famous madam of all time. Hollander will take questions from the audience after the film and will sign copies of her tell-all book, The Happy Hooker: My Own Story, which will be available to purchase during the event.
