It’s the most wonderful time of the year. The winter holidays are right around the corner, which means Starbucks is back with their signature holiday cups. However, this year the company has taken a leap to be more inclusive featuring a same-sex couple in their commercial.
The commercial for this year’s holiday campaign, “Give Good,” debuted last week. The 30-second animated clip, which features a variety of families throughout the ad, had everyone talking with their addition of a lesbian couple snuggled up for a warm brew at the end.
The company’s goal with their campaign this time around was simple; be representative of the connections that their customers share with their loved ones.
“Giving good can be as small as someone opening the door for you, or recognizing the people that enrich your life – your child’s teacher, a caregiver, a family friend,” the spokeswoman told HuffPost. “(December is) a time to celebrate all the good we give to each other. We will continue to embrace and welcome customers from all backgrounds and religions in our stores around the world.”
The coffee business giant is no stranger of supporting LGBT rights. Back in 2012, they joined several other corporations and publicly endorsed same-sex marriage legislation in Washington state.
This year’s holiday cups play off the trend of adult coloring books, allowing customers to fill in the black-and-white outlines of ornaments, gifts and trees with whatever colors they please. Perhaps if you are feeling prideful this holiday season, you can paint rainbows while sipping on your morning pick-me-up.
