(EDGE) With Pride Month only being two weeks away, 5 Gum produced a touching new video in which an 86-year-old man explains he came out as gay just a year ago.
In the clip, the man, identified as Martin, says his biggest regret in life is waiting so long to come out.
"It's tough to be an outsider. I regret being such a sissy. So nervous. So bloody shy," he says in the video. "I left it until I was actually 85 years old to really basically come out. I've missed the boat as regards to finding a lovely partner, a soulmate that I could love, live with.
"If you ask me if you want to set up with another young guy, go ahead, do it. You've got it. You owe it to yourself. And to him," he adds.
The clip features text that reads, "Martin's regret inspired young people to shape their futures and redeem Martin's past." The video then shows Martin watching videos of a number of young queer people admiring his story. One man says, "Martin - your story inspired me to be true to myself and to be proud of who I am."
Another clip Martin watches shows a young same-sex couple getting engaged. Another shows a young man coming out to his father as gay via Skype, leaving Martin in tears.
The video ends with Martin celebrating an LGBTQ Pride event, where he's seen waving a rainbow flag and wearing rainbow face paint.
