Washington’s Governor Jay Inslee has the potential to end conversation therapy on minors in his state with a new law.

The state sent the bill to Inslee for approval after it passed the state House and Senate, according to PinkNews. The practice is already illegal in nine U.S. states, which would make Washington the tenth to get rid of it completely.

“Children across the Evergreen State deserve to live their lives authentically and should never be subjected to the abusive practice of so-called conversion therapy,” said Human Rights Campaign Senior Vice President for Policy and Political Affairs JoDee Winterhof.

“It’s time for Washington to join the growing number of states and municipalities who are enacting these critical protections. We thank the state legislators who voted to protect LGBTQ youth from this dangerous practice and now call on Governor Inslee to sign this crucially important legislation.”

According to King 5 News, both licensed and non-licensed therapists would be banned from using conversion therapy. That non-licensed ban includes religious officials.

Inslee is expected to sign the bill into law, according to The Hill.
