Time Magazine released this year’s 100 Most Influential People — and named two LGBT people on the list.
“Behind his soft-spoken demeanor and Southern manners is a focused fearlessness that comes from deep personal conviction,” chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger wrote of Cook. “Tim is committed to doing the right thing, in the right way, at the right time and for the right reasons.”
Also making the list is American television personality, retired Olympic gold medalist and transgender woman Caitlyn Jenner. Jenner is a “Pioneer,” according to Time. She came out last year and started her own television series, “I Am Caitlyn.”
Wayne Maines, transgender-rights activist from Maine, referred to Jenner as a hero. “Caitlyn did know the consequences of coming out,” he wrote. “Because no matter where you come from, how famous you might be or how much money you have, letting America see you in such a vulnerable way is daring and admirable—not self-serving.”
