NEW YORK - Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the beating of a gay journalist on a New York City street.
They say Leighton Jennings was arrested without incident at a residence in Queens shortly before midnight Tuesday. The 24-year-old faces felony assault charges.
Police say their investigation determined that the attack was not of a bias nature.
Police say the journalist, Randy Gener (JEHN’-ur), was walking home on Jan. 17 when he was viciously punched in the face on West 54th Street in Manhattan. His wallet, phone and gold necklace were not taken.
He underwent brain surgery.
His relatives say he remembers little about the attack and faces additional surgery.
Gener has done freelance work for The New York Times and the Miami Herald.
