Chevrolet Features Gay Families
The world of advertising is finally catching up with its LGBT audience.
During the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics, Chevrolet — one of the world's largest car brands — aired two new advertisements with diverse casts that include gay families. The spots blend news clips, social media and real-life events to show that even though the world is changing, the things that matter most remain the same.
"Chevrolet has nailed it with ads that truly reflect the fabric of our nation, which today includes gay and lesbian families," said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.
Winter Party Seeks Volunteers
From the internationally acclaimed Beach Party, to a progressive shopping night on the world-renowned Lincoln Road pedestrian mall, to electrifying events exclusively for women, the 2014 Winter Party Festival promises a six-day, non-stop lineup of events and activities.
Organizers of Winter Party Festival in Miami Beach are seeking hundreds of volunteers to help with a variety of tasks including assisting with nightclub and social events, staffing the welcome center, event production, finance and media relations, among others. Methodists in Crisis Over Gay Marriage
The dispute among United Methodists over recognition of same-sex couples has lapsed into a doctrinal donnybrook, pitting clergy who are presiding at gay weddings in defiance of church law against proponents of traditional marriage who are trying to stop them.
The intensity of the conflict was laid bare over the last several months, when the church tried, convicted and defrocked Frank Schaefer, a Pennsylvania pastor who presided at the wedding of his son to another man. Schaefer has since been traveling the country giving talks and sermons on gay acceptance.
New Gay Pool Party Launching in Vegas
Following a $200 million renovation, the updated Tropicana Resort and Casino, now called The New Tropicana Las Vegas, is launching an LGBT pool party in just a few months.
Called Xposed!, the weekly Saturday party will feature a pool area with waterfalls, palm trees, daybeds, cabanas, DJs, go-go dancers, celeb performers, two Olympic-sized sand volleyball courts, two heated pools, and lots of half-naked people ready to mingle.
"We are a strong advocate for the LGBTQ community," Fred Harmon, chief marketing officer for The New Tropicana Las Vegas, said in a statement.
