BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Supreme Court says gay and lesbian couples have the same right to adopt children as anyone else under state law.
The unanimous opinion was handed down Monday in favor of Boise resident Darcy Drake Simpson, who has raised two children with her same-sex partner since the first child was born 15 years ago.
The Idaho Statesman (http://bit.ly/1iLM8lM ) reports Drake Simpson and Rene Simpson have been together since 1995 and they were married last year in California. Together, they are raising two children — the first born to Simpson in 1998 and the second adopted by Simpson as an infant in 2001.
A lower court judge denied Drake Simpson's adoption petition, but the Supreme Court reversed that decision, saying Idaho law says any adult can adopt a child.
