DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A former employee for Mystique Casino in Dubuque has sued the casino, claiming she was fired because she didn't dress more feminine.

The civil lawsuit by Brandy Welter, a former marketing manager, seeks an unspecified amount of damages for lost wages and emotional distress, among other things. The Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1mY1mVn ) her attorney filed the suit on Aug. 22 in Dubuque District Court.

Welter, who is openly gay, says she felt singled out because of her gender and sexual orientation. The lawsuit claims supervisors encouraged her to wear more feminine clothing like dresses and heels.

A message with Mystique was not immediately returned Thursday.

The suit says Mystique cited performance issues for Welter's firing in February. She says it was in retaliation for her complaints about the clothing suggestions.
