His mother, Heather Maxine, and her boyfriend Kareem Ernesto Leiva, pleaded not guilty to murder involving the infliction of torture of Anthony on Oct. 3. If they are found guilty, they could face the death penalty, Pink News reported.

They are also charged with one count of torture and child abuse.

Brandon Nichols, deputy director of Department of Child and Family Services (DFCS) said Anthony, from Lancaster, California, told his mother “he liked boys and girls,” according to CBS Los Angeles.

DFCS has opened 18 investigations into the household since 2013, including 88 allegations of child abuse, sexual abuse, and child neglect, according to Pink News.
