DETROIT (AP) - A group representing gay Catholics says it's proceeding with plans to hold a Mass on Sunday at Marygrove College in the face of appeals from a conservative Christian group that the Archdiocese of Detroit block the event.
Dignity USA's Detroit chapter has had previous Masses in the chapel of the Roman Catholic-sponsored school.
Dignity USA executive director Marianne Duddy-Burke says all children of God "should be able to worship in peace."
American Family Association Michigan President Gary Glenn has asked Archbishop Allen Vigneron (VIG'-neh-rawn) to enforce Vatican policies on homosexuality and intervene against the Mass.
Archdiocese spokesman Ned NcGrath says there are "hundreds of Masses celebrated in the Detroit Archdiocese every weekend" and Vigneron expects they'll follow Catholic teachings.
The Associated Press has asked the college for comment.
