Peter Rauhofer is best known for making headlines with his pulsating music at gay parties around the world, but on April 18 Rauhofer’s manager, Angelo Russo, announced on Rauhofer’s Facebook page that the Grammy Award-winning DJ has a “large brain tumor” that has “gone undiagnosed for quite some time.”
Russo wrote the tumor was discovered after Rauhofer was rushed to an emergency room after suffering a seizure. Russo went on to say the Rauhofer’s family is working with neurologists to determine the best course of action and treatment options.
Miami-based promoter and manager Ryan Work met Rauhofer in 2008 and since then has worked with him quite a bit. He said Rauhofer inspired him to get into the management and promotion business. When he heard the news of Rauhofer’s brain tumor, he told SFGN he was simply “devastated.”
“The man had such an impact in my life,” Work said. “He gave me the desire to be a promoter.”
Work said the drive Rauhofer, who has played many South Florida venues including the Manor in Wilton Manors, transmitted to him on and off the dance floor is what led Work to get closer to people in the industry, eventually leading the way for Work to promote his own events.
“I decided to set out and manage DJ's,” Work said. “He directly and indirectly in a lot of ways really changed my life.”
Work calls Rauhofer’s illness a huge blow for all the people inside of music, but wishes his friend a fast and full recovery.
“Many of our most magical memories happened on his dance floor,” Work said. “There is only one and will always only be one Peter Rauhofer. We are all praying for you.”
