South Florida Election Update: West and Murphy Locked in Dead Heat

Early returns show Anti-gay candidate Allen West locked in a tight battle with newcomer Patrick Murphy for U.S. House District 18. As of 11 p.m. less than 2,000 votes separate the candidates.

Other election results include pro-marriage equality U.S. Representative Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen with 60 percent of the vote. Democrat Debbie Wasserman Schultz is leading her opponent with 63 percent for U.S. House District 23, and Democrat Lois Frankel is leading her opponent with 54 percent for U.S. House District 22.

In the State Senate Democrat Maria Sachs is leading Republican Ellyn Bogdanoff, who has been characterized as anti-gay by local gay activists and Equality Florida. While Broward Sheriff Republican Al Lamberti is losing to his opponent Scott Israel. Lamberti has also been characterized as being anti-gay by some democratic activists, while other have come to his defense.
