A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of two suspects who assaulted and robbed a Wilton Manors resident at 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 12 at the corner of Northeast 21 Court and Northeast 1 Avenue, near Wilton Drive.
On Thursday afternoon, police were handing out the Crime Stoppers flyers along Wilton Drive and Northeast 21 Court. “Your police department is doing everything possible to catch the culprit. We have enlisted the assistance of Crime Stoppers, who is offering a $3,000 reward,” read a statement by Mayor Gary Resnick and Chief Paul O’Connell.
The man, Denis Kladchihin, was assaulted by two men who ran after him after they hid behind the bushes of a nearby home. He said he was walking home from Wilton Drive when he was attacked.
Kladchihin said one of the suspects was arrested but police have declined to confirm. “At this time I cannot confirm this information. Our Detective Bureau continues to make this case a top priority with a goal of holding these criminals accountable,” wrote Commander Gary Blocker in an email.
A surveillance camera caught part of the incident. The men, one a heavy set black or Hispanic male and the other, a skinny white or Hispanic male, can be seen on video chasing Kladchihin down Northeast 1 Avenue. At first, Kladchihin was able to outrun the men but they caught up to him in a dark-colored 2012 or newer Honda CRV.
Kladchihin was pistol-whipped and robbed. “They hit me with the gun on my head, legs and hands. They took everything that I had in my pockets - $12, a credit card and my driver’s license. When they left, I was bleeding.”
Kladchihin said he feels less safe now. Asked if he would take more precautions in the future, Kladchihin replied “absolutely.”
