The Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce will hold its 13th annual Emerald Gala in the Grand ballroom of downtown Miami's Hilton Hotel on June 21at 6 p.m.

“The Emerald Gala is the networking event of the year,” said MDGLCC President and CEO Steve Adkins.

The night will feature a silent auction with 200 items and a formal sit down awards ceremony and dinner. This year’s event is sponsored by Wells Fargo.

The ‘Emerald’ is this year's Gala theme color. It was chosen from the color spectrum of the LGBT flag to signify Growth, Renewal, and Prosperity within the community. The event will feature a welcome toast with an emerald-colored laser light show. The ceremony will honor chamber members and active community leaders.

Honorees this year include Mary Wong president of the Office Depot Foundation for Business of the Year; and President and Founder of Source Events Craig Smith for Business Person of the Year.

Smith founded an international travel company and event company that customizes cruises and exotic adventures for the LGBT community and their allies as well as being the founder of the Miami Beach Gay Pride Cruise.

“The proceeds from the event fund Chamber programs and operations not covered by membership income,” Adkins said.

Each ticket purchased will include a chance to win a trip for two to the Caribbean Island of Curacao. The lucky grand prize raffle winner will enjoy their own private beach on the gay friendly island with a 4 night stay at the Floris Suite hotel. Also included with each ticket is a VIP Goodies bag, one bag will contain a $500 cash prize and five others will include $100 cash prizes.

The event started as a simple restaurant dinner with 75 attendees. Thirteen years later it has grown to nearly 600 strong. Miami Heat point guard Norris Cole donated an autographed basketball, and Heat's Chris “Birdman” Andersen provided a signed jersey for this year’s auction. Up for grabs will also be two tickets to the upcoming Erasure concert featuring their latest studio album “The Violet Flame.” The band will be kicking off their world tour at the Fillmore Miami Beach in September.

The after party, dubbed Jackson Miracle will host performances by the winners of the LGBT Visitors Center Pink Flamingo Awards — featuring fan favorite Drag Queen Tiffany Fantasia and master-beat artist DJ Pride.

Tickets include the grand buffet, complementary parking, VIP gift bag, Grand Raffle ticket and reserved seating. They start at $200 for individual tickets and tables of 10 can be purchased for $2,000. Visit www.GayBizGala.com for more information.
