George Ryan Salon, a gay-owned business in Palm Beach Gardens, will be hosting an event Wednesday to benefit a local cancer foundation.

“I am very excited to be able to bring together [the] community and also give back at the same time,” salon owner George Ryan said.

“Hair we go…” will benefit the Connor Moran Children’s Cancer Foundation as well as local artists and food vendors from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5. The salon will also offer discounted haircuts: $25 for short- to shoulder-length hair and $35 for shoulder- to long-length hair, which is up to $20 less than typical prices.

“I always reflect around this time of year and try to give as much and as often as we can — personally and as a business,” Ryan added.

Donations for the foundation will be accepted at the event. Founder Teri Moran launched the charity in 1992 after her 2-year-old son, Connor, passed away. Now, Moran primarily helps families affected by pediatric cancer pay for medical bills.

“A lot of people want to make a difference, but don’t know where to start,” she said. “Together, we can make such an amazing difference.”

Moran’s foundation has raised thousands of dollars for families’ bills and necessities over the last 26 years.

“No matter what [people] are diagnosed with, we want to help them in some way shape or form,” Moran said. “The gay community has been tremendously helpful in raising awareness every single time.”

One of the event’s attending artist will be Avi Ram, a professional airbrush and body artist. He was featured on the Game Show Network’s “Skin Wars” for his body art and will be showcasing those skills Wednesday night.

Other local artisans will be selling clothes and purses, and others homemade crafts, according to the salon’s marketing and events coordinator, Eric Harazi.

DJ FranK O. will be playing live electronic music throughout the night. In addition to music, there will also be food trucks and drinks available. One of the participating food trucks is Old School, which serves burgers, wraps, waffles and more.

This is the first “Hair we go…” event the salon has hosted. To reserve a discounted service time and price visit the Connor Moran Children’s Cancer Foundation website here. The salon’s address is 10800 N. Military Trail in Palm Beach Gardens.
