On Sunday, August 5, the Gay Men’s Chorus joins forces with the New River Orchestra for a performance benefiting the Sunshine Cathedral. Tickets are $20. The musicians in the orchestra and chorus members donate their effort and time to perform this concert.
Sunshine Cathedral is a progressive, positive, spiritual community that is affiliated with Metropolitan Community Churches. Historically, Sunshine Cathedral's primary constituency has consisted of same-gender loving and gender non-conforming people and their allies. The Reverend Dr. Durrell Watkins is Sunshine Cathedral's senior minister.
Summer is a time when attendance and giving tend to decrease, but the needs of the Sunshine Cathedral remain constant. Also, summer is when strong storms tend to hit, and when giving is down for four or five months, having depleted funds can devastate the finances of the church.
The fundraiser promises to be an amazing performance. The Chorus is one of the region’s largest and most successful community-based choruses celebrated for outstanding musicianship, creative programming, and community outreach. Each year GMCSF reaches over 12,000 audience members with its messages of love and inclusion.
The New River Orchestra is the collaboration of a group of musicians for the continued study and performance of classical music. It was founded in 2005 with a vision to be an elite local orchestra. Today, it has grown into a group of over 50 members.
Attendees are invited to bring non-perishable food items to support the Sunshine Cathedral Brown Bag Outreach Ministry. Sunshine Cathedral is located at 1480 SW 9th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
