Fort Lauderdale was named the best city to retire as an LGBT person.

The city was selected as part of retirement resource SeniorAdvice’s top 20 cities for LGBT retirement list. Lauderdale was one of two Florida cities selected, with Tampa coming in 12th place.

SeniorAdvice highlighted the weather and the large LGBT senior population in the area as some of the main draws. They also wrote about Wilton Manors and all the gay friendly businesses and attractions within the area.

“Fort Lauderdale has several city parks, gay-specific beaches, resorts and over 130 area golf courses,” the website wrote. “Celebrating 25 years of service, Pride Center Florida was established in the city to meet the distinct health, social, educational, socio-economic and safety needs of the LGBTQ community and its allies.”

Austin, Texas finished in second, while Atlanta finished in third. Portland, Oregon and Palm Springs, California rounded out the top five.

" is an invaluable resource for seniors, their family members, and caregivers to help find the most livable locations,” SeniorAdvice founder, Ryan Patterson said in a release. “We're also very dedicated to diversity and inclusion, and we wanted to make sure we could assist members of the gay and lesbian community in finding the best locations for retirement and senior housing."
